Masthead

another problem i found with my previous front cover was that with the colours i used, combined with the font, it was still very hard to read, regardless of what i tried, it also didnt look very professional, to hopefully combat this i have designed my own mast head from scratch, using old english text mt, as both Q and Kerrang have something striking about their masthead.

this was the pencil sketch of my design idea, using two clenched fists, creating a strong and striking imagery, happy with this idea i continued to redo it onto industry standard bristol board A4 paper, which i will continue to add colour to in my GIMP image editing software.

Audience feedback i have gained from social networking sites due to a limited timescale, have supported the second picture, so i changed it very slightly to better centre the model to the background, and cleaned up the white pixels surrounding him:

owing to the fact that the costume this time had some more thought put into due to the problems that arose last time with colour scheming, and is thus all black, it will be a lot easier to implement into a simple three colour colour scheme, the ever popular red black and white, with maybe a hint of gold, for a rock themed music magazine as i have decided to make the genre of the re-imagining. As a primary idea i thought that the images would look good with a backdrop of fire. and these images where created:

A Few Edits

Of the pictures I took the ones I prefered and cut out the backgrounds in gimp using the free select tool, these will make them easier to incorporate into the later projects of this task:

New Photographs

Another shortcoming of the previous blog was a lack of photographs in the the planning stages, and so, as a hope to improve this I have taken some more, however my original model has now departed for university so these are of a different person:



















unfortunately we were lacking in musical instruments, nut hopefully these will be able to be used alongside the photos i took previously

Circulation

On this blog I have previously looked at both Kerrang! and Q magazines for my research and planning, however I neglected to look into how popular these magazines are in relation to each other and to other music magazines that are published, by considering sales.

Q magazine is has a monthly circulation of which sells an average of 88,240
Kerrang! has a weekly circulation and sales of 42,967, (totalling 171,868 per month)
And for comparisons; classic rock a monthly at 71,242 per issue
and NME, a weekly, sells around 33,875 per issue.

Looking at number of around 40,000 for weekly's and 80,000 for monthly's
