week 2 review
This week I have designed three possible covers to the magazine and thanks to the feedback have decided on one to use as my final piece and have started to develop it into the final cover.
for the title of the magazine i am torn between "the students almanac" and "student madness".
however I still ned to plan the photo shoot and get it done before i can finish my magazine cover and start work on the contents page

week one report
most things i wanted to do have been achieved, i have done the weekly plan, finished the questionaire, evaluated existing student magazines (acompanied by images of said covers), and have comment on several others blogs. however i have, at the present time, only had one reply to my questionaire. hence i have not decided the best route to take in the area of my target audience.

looking at existing student magazines
Smaart Talent
the most prominent feature of the magazine cover is the medium close up of celbrity Miquita Oliver in a flirtatious pose pulling on her necklace and blowing a pink bubblegum bubble, this picture is acompanied by a cover line saying "Miquita goes pop", linking to the bubble gum but giving absolutely no clues as to what the story/article will be about. the second most prominent feature is the mast head, "smaart" written vertically upwards along the "T" in "Talent" at the top of the page. the mast head is placed behind Miquita as to not block the "eye candy" used to draw in the possible readers. It has two cover line headings on the left side of the "careers" and "advice" with lists of appropriate articles featured in the magazine. It has boxed information text at the bottom of the page stating the publishers and beneath that its website. the smallest and thinest font is used for the price.
it has a niche market as stated beneath the mast head: "the careers magazine for black and minority ethnic students"
Post Script
three colours; pink, brown and white, compliment each other, no clashes, not over powered by too many, also makes you create links, eyes travel to and from words of the same colour
coverline "miquita goes pop" anchors picture,
of which takes up the entire page
First Car
The first thing that draws the eye on this magazine cover is the image of the four actors, the one at the front being the most prominent and in focus, which decreases the further away the people get. They are leaning on a car, inkeeping with the genre of the magazine and the colour of the car; yellow, is inkeeping with the colour scheme of black yellow and white, again olnly three colours as to not be overpowering, also the colours do not clash. the image is anchored by the cover line "the inbetweeners interview inside" informing us of the content of the magazine and telling us who the people actually are. The title is in big block capital white letters in the top left and behind it the image fades out to black, and beneath it i breif introduction to what the magazine is: "the magazine for young drivers". to the right of the title are cover lines stating the main articles of the issue and there are two banners informing the reader of more content, a thin white one at the top and one at the bottem with pictures acompanying cover lines, at the far left of the banner is the bar code, price, website and cost, out of the way in the bottem corner.
